The two musicians Dirk Lakomy and Tobias Birkenweil met first in 1992 to begin a musical partnership. During the first years they had sent Remixes to their particular bands (Derriere Le Miroir, In My Rosary, DNS) mutually before starting a project together in 2002 which is called Lakobeil.
They are inspired by early 80sEBM music and punk and use those influences for creating their own thing of electro music which arrived the listeners very friendly. After the release of their debutalbum “Strange Ecnounters” last year and the following “Crash” EP Lakobeil are willing to release their next bomb.
The first Download single of the German duo is called “Drowning Lullaby (Song To Baal) and will be released in September. The single contains two brand new original songs, an exclusive collaboration with All Living Fear member Matthew North and remixes from !distain, Bionic and more. Stay tuned for that powerful release.
Lakobeil - Strange Encounter
With their debut album "Strange Encounter" Dirk Lakomy (ex Umbra Et Imago, In My Rosary, producer of Derriere Le Miroir) and Tobias Birkenbeil (DNS, Cytron, composer of movie scores) demostrate that music influenced by electronic new wave in addition to electroclash, punk and EBM is still able to be great fun in times of a musical sensory overload of the genre without sounding too stale.
Music to dance to ("Amygdata"), song-oriented, hypnotic ("Sebastiane"), sometimes dark-melancholic, with a driving beat ("Crimetime"), but also catchy-trendy ("Cairo") accompanies the listener throughout the ten album songs.
In addition to Tobias Birkenbeil's charismatic vocals, guest vocalist Stella B. rounds off the singing part which combination in certains songs is reminiscent of the best times of Derriere Le Miroir ("That's All", "Sleeper").
The album's musical range is completed by the last track "Push It To The Max" featuring a symbiosis of dark minimal electro and "A Flock Of Seagulls".
With "Strange Encounter" LAKOBEIL reside far away from short-lived club concepts and respond with a high individual quality, a love of experimentation and good songwriting which the band is going to demonstrate on several future live concerts.
